Our Services

Step 1: Consultation
Every business and every site is different, so the first step is to find out if solar is right for you. Blue Sky Solar provides free consultations that detail all financial, environmental, and technical aspects of the project. This consultation includes an inspection of your roof, an analysis of your electrical demand, and a full financial analysis of costs, benefits, and projected impacts on your utility bills. This will allow us to custom design your system to maximize its productivity and financial returns. Again, this consultation is free of charge! So if you've ever wondered if solar is right for you, contact us today.

Step 2: Installation
Blue Sky Solar will handle all major aspects of system design and installation, providing a turn-key system that is ready to produce clean, renewable energy right out of the gate. Our services include:
  • Obtaining all necessary permits and utility interconnection agreements. We know who to call and what forms you need to sign, and we will guide you through the process step-by-step.
  • Requesting and verifying all utility locations at your facility.
  • Installing all system components safely, neatly, and securely.
  • Coordinating the commissioning and activation of the system with the electrical inspector and utility.
  • Finding all available financial incentives and rebates from utilities and the state, federal, and local governments to ensure that you get the best possible value.

Blue Sky Solar strives to deliver the highest quality service, and we warranty the installation of the system for five years after completion.

About Solar PV
Solar energy is fundamentally simple. Solar PV (photovoltaic) panels produce electric current when exposed to sunlight. Inverters convert the direct current (DC) from the panels to the alternating current (AC) that your building uses. That AC current is then routed to the building's main electrical panel, making it available to be used just like energy from the grid.

Blue Sky Solar specializes in grid-interactive systems that supplement energy from the grid rather than replace grid electricity entirely. This ensures that you can take full advantage of solar energy production during the daylight hours and have additional electricity available from the grid as needed. Exactly how much grid electricity your PV system will offset depends on the size of the system, how much energy you use, and when you use it. For a full analysis of the impact of solar PV on your utility costs, contact us to arrange a free solar consultation.

Why Solar?
Solar panel prices are lower than ever, and system quality and efficiency continue to rise. Combine this with the generous incentives and rebates available from utilities and state, federal, and local governments, and there has never been a better time to go solar!

Even at current energy prices, solar PV can yield a high rate of return for business owners. Utility rates are not constant over time, however, and continue to rise steadily in Iowa and throughout the Midwest.

How much will energy costs rise? We can't predict the future, but based on recent trends it could be a lot. For example, rates for Iowa Power & Light's (IPL) commercial customers have risen by an average of 3.7% per year over the past decade (see figure below), which is similar to trends for other regional utilities. Given these increases, businesses should prepare to pay up to 50% more for electricity within 10 years, and for costs to double within 20 years.

The good news is that as utility rates rise, so do the savings from solar PV! Solar PV can insulate businesses from rising energy costs and provide a growing rate of return. Best of all, the panels, racking, and inverters are all warranted for 25 years, so investing in solar energy today will provide your business with savings for decades to come.

Solar PV not only makes good business sense, it makes sense for the planet, too. In addition to being a good financial investment, solar energy ensures cleaner air and a healthier environment by preventing harmful emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants. Investing in solar PV also supports the growing solar energy industry in Iowa and across the US, strengthening the local and national economy and ensuring a bright, healthy, and prosperous future for all.
